The Power of Music Therapy @AlzToronto

Community News: The Alzheimer Society of Toronto has been a wonderful advocate of Music Therapy for many years. More recently, JAZZ.FM91 and Alzheimer Society of Toronto have partnered to bring awareness of the importance and impact that music has on those suffering with dementia. Every Tuesday morning, Garvia Bailey presents the popular feature “Music Memory” on Good Morning Toronto.  Let us know if you have a music memory that you’d like to share! 

Did you know that personalized music has the power to:
• Act as a conduit of memory.
• Improve cognition and communication.
• Improve mood.
• Produce other desirable forms of interaction.
Plus, we learned in this excellent article about the Alzheimer Society of Toronto’s iPod Project, that personalized music creates time for self-care.

CITY TV NEWS REPORT: On January 8th, City TV interviewed Jennifer Buchanan (certified music therapist). In the following video, Jennifer explains how young and old, the sick and healthy, can all benefit from sweet sounds. Worth watching and sharing!
