June is Stroke Awareness Month

People of all ages should be aware of the symptoms of stroke because early diagnosis and treatment are vital. Your risk of stroke increases with age and it can be particularly debilitating and even life threatening for older adults.

Adapting healthy lifestyle behaviours including exercising regularly, quitting smoking, managing stress and maintaining a healthy weight can help to reduce your risk of stroke as well as other cardiovascular conditions that threaten optimal aging.

The McMaster Optimal Aging portal provides evidence-based resources about stroke symptoms, treatment and recovery.
