Our monthly interactive elder abuse workshop series have come to a successful close.
All five sessions were free to the community and provided a ‘lunch and learn’ opportunity in elder abuse.
The final workshop on March 21st featured a lesson in self defence for seniors with a guest speaker from SAFE International. They provided an effective and highly memorable personal protection instruction to participants and taught them new defensive skills to use if needed. The session was not a martial arts program however, but rather, a practical and realistic approach to personal safety.
The workshops sessions have provided an education program to teach and empower seniors about the risks of financial abuse and fraud. Seniors who attended were given support and the resource tools to ensure they do not fall victim to these types of abuse. They were hosted at 1709 Bloor St. W. from October of 2017 to March 2018 with professional guest speakers from different backgrounds.
The Elder Abuse Workshops have been funded by the Government of Ontario through the Seniors Community Grant.
